Blue Zebra Insurance (BZI) is a pioneering insurtech-focused underwriting agency. The firm believes passionately in the advice model and, as such, operates exclusively in the intermediated insurance market. BZI offers advanced insurtech tools to insurance brokers, using intelligent digital solutions, to ensure brokers can provide a wide array of coverage options to their clients.
BZI enables brokers to quote, bind and service personal lines and SME customers digitally. Major efficiencies are achieved by integrating with multiple data partners to gain deeper insights into risks. Strategic use of algorithms and third-party data provides decision-critical information. BZI also leverages robotic automation to streamline broker payments, a task that would typically require a team of about 12 people.
The team also offers cyber insurance, and its state-of-the-art online platform, Zebra Lounge, facilitates access to other products. The portal connects brokers directly to quote pages and real-time policy data.
One of the company’s distinct advantages is that it is unencumbered by legacy IT systems. BZI was established in 2018 and built its entire insurtech system from scratch – so it is modern and efficient. Since its inception, BZI has refined its entire technology stack based on feedback and experience. BZI’s flagship insurance platform, Blue Leopard, provides agencies and insurers with an unrivalled end-to-end policy administration system. Blue Leopard’s innovative architecture also streamlines product development life cycles, allowing new products to go from concept to production in weeks. All of BZI’s products are housed under this one platform, with the same front and back end, driving considerable efficiencies.

Nikil Deo is an experienced technology professional with over 20 years of technology and cyber experience in the financial services sector. He is fortunate to have had a career spanning the transition from mainframe computing to today’s cloud ecosystem, along with experiencing the evolution of cyber risks along the way. Nikil has also been fortunate to be involved in a few local firsts – being the first APAC customer of Microsoft’s BPOS cloud offering and being part of the team that implemented the first ‘Pay as You Drive’ product in Australia. He is excited to be part of the Emergence team helping find cyber insurance solutions for the Australian market.

Blake joined Emergence in March 2020 to build an in-house claims-handling and incident response function. Having in-house incident response gives Emergence a competitive advantage over its competitors, but more importantly it provides a better response to its insureds, to get them back to their best quicker!
