insurance by forging strong partnerships with top-tier insurers and delivering a seamless, technology-driven experience across both direct and broker channels.
Michael’s entrepreneurial journey began in the early 2000s when he and his business partner, Gavin Donner, identified a gap in the market and launched Mega Capital Insurance, a niche brokerage that quickly achieved notable success. Building on this momentum, in 2008, Michael and Gavin joined Bradley Miller in founding BizCover − Australia’s first online business insurance marketplace − with a bold mission: to make comparing, buying and managing business insurance simpler, more accessible and more affordable for small business owners.
Seventeen years later, BizCover is global, serving customers across Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The platform’s innovative technology allows insurance partners to integrate effortlessly, broadening its reach across both the direct-to-business and broker markets.
Recognising that small business owners are often time-poor and cost-conscious, BizCover set out to remove the traditional pain points in trying to compare, buy and manage business insurance. Whether customers buy directly online, through brokers or via referrals channels, BizCover ensures a consistent, streamlined and stress-free experience.
In 2017, the company formalised its mission, vision and values − centred on delivering an outstanding customer experience. BizCover’s strategy is anchored on four pillars: continue to be the number one online business insurance platform by generating significant customer growth through scalable infrastructure to provide an amazing customer experience.
In 2025, BizCover surpassed its long-term milestone of 250,000 customers, forecasting to end the year with close to 300,000 active customers.
Innovation remains at the heart of BizCover’s success. The company continues to invest heavily in its technological capability, having recently launched two new tools:
• Pulse Check: an AI-powered engine that analyses real-time customer interactions for mood, sentiment and intent, enabling dynamic enhancements to both customer experience and operational efficiency.
• Echo: a compliance tool that automatically detects regulatory and quality issues within sales calls, ensuring the business consistently meets the highest compliance standards.
These innovations are part of BizCover’s broader vision to reimagine the customer journey using cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence.
The company’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. BizCover has received numerous accolades, including:
• Insurance Business 5-Star Insurance Innovator (2022, 2024)
• Insurance Business Top Insurance Employers (2021, 2022)
• Product Review Awards (Insurance category, six consecutive years – 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025)
• Deloitte’s Australia’s Best Managed Companies Award (2024)
• Insurance Business CEO of the Year (2025).
Looking forward, BizCover remains committed to its mission of simplifying business insurance. As a recognised authority in the insurtech sector, the company will continue to lead with bold ideas, smarter technology and customer-first thinking − shaping the future of insurance for small businesses worldwide.
